SECOND HILL STUDIO | ![]() |
Up On The Hill...
Charles "Chuck" Rubano has engineered hundreds of recording and mixing sessions, most notably at Normandy Sound during the late 90's. Rising quickly from intern to assistant then to staff engineer and tech, he acquired extensive experience by working along side notable producers and engineers such as Phil Greene, Tom Soares, Bill Appleberry, Bob Weston and Joe Carrier. While at Normandy, He worked on his first Gold record; Joey McIntytre's "Stay The Same". Sadly, Normandy closed it's doors; but Charles didn't give up! He continued working in the indie scene for 10 solid years in his Coventry, CT project studio. Charles has occasionally freelenced at Longview Farm, Electric Lady, Trod Nossel, Rockstone Studio, Celebration Sound (former Normandy Sound), Steve Wytas Productions, Suite Sixteen and in California at San Francisco's Tiny Telephone and San Jose's GoRaw. While at Tiny Telephone, a noted Bay Area engineer was heard to say "these drum sounds are amazing!" Whether at Masterdisk, Sterling Sound, Specialized, M-Works or Peerless Mastering, he makes it a point to attend his client's mastering sessions. Why? "During mastering I listen and learn. That helps make me a better engineer".
The latest chapter is now unfolding. Spring 2011 marks Charles' move to a retreat setting in Woodstock, NY. Under the auspices of Olivier Chastan, a former Sony Music VP and head of ZagaZow Music, a new room is in the works. It is being designed by Wes Lachot and will be operational in Summer 2011. By providing and commissioning the key studio gear, including a newly recapped Trident 80B console, Charles will become partner and chief engineer. Ahhh, the new digs; come on up...
